NFL Roundup: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Seals Contest
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after giving up a safety in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards during the contest.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Record Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had possession with a opportunity to drive for a potential winning score. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented after the game.
