Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
