Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Squad Against India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-game ODI series versus India, with in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected inclusion.

Recent Form Result in Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international team following being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a highest score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates

Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a Test return as Australia look for a fix to their top-order woes.

Pace Returns and Fitness Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
