Daughter of Former South African Leader Jacob Zuma Refutes Terror-Related Allegations as Trial Starts
The child of ex- South African Leader Jacob Zuma has pleaded not guilty to terrorism-related accusations at the start of her court case in the coastal city of the city of Durban.
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, forty-three, is being prosecuted over statements she made on online platforms several years back during violent demonstrations in South Africa that occurred subsequent to the detention of her dad.
A seven-day period of disorder in multiple regions of the country in July 2021, including theft and arson, caused at least three hundred deceased and resulted in damage worth an approximate $2.8 billion (£2.2 billion).
She has been accused of inciting this turmoil and is charged with allegations of incitement to commit terror-related activities and civil unrest.
History of the Case
The protests were centered in the areas of Gauteng region and KwaZulu-Natal and followed the ex-leader's apprehension for disobeying a judicial ruling to give evidence at an investigation into accusations of corruption while he was serving as president.
The defendant has repeatedly refuted the allegations against her, with her lawyer in the past calling the state's case as weak.
She has also repeatedly said the allegations against her were an bid to resolve political scores with her father after he founded his own political party and campaigned against the African National Congress.

This was reinforced by the Zuma foundation, which stated the legal matter was an "power abuse" and a "systematic campaign" of "political and family-related harassment" against the former president and his relatives.
A small number of backers from her group, her party, appeared outside the provincial high court, while her parent and other group representatives participated in the hearings inside.
The defendant's representatives has stated that the evidence presented by prosecutors is inadequate and fails to provide compelling proof for a conviction.
