19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional victory, took control to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
