Both Deceased Students Named in Brown University Incident as Law Enforcement Press On With Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who died in the recent mass shooting on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their killer continued following the release by Rhode Island officials of the only individual of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also expressed words of sorrow online, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, friends, and peers and grieve for of his bright future.”
